So about those six subs the French made. Given how strong and dangeorus they looked in their first two games and how they've been unable to score tonight despite dominating the game, I'd bet the starting lineup for the round of 16 to reverts to the team that crushed Switzerland 5-2.

The US-Germany game will kickoff as scheduled, despite torrential rain in Recife this morning, ESPN reports.

Reuters Tony Gentile took the shot of the Suarez bite. Russell Boyce, a Reuters photo editor, has a great account of how the picture was taken and the editing decisions that went into the iconic image of the most infamous incident of this World Cup:We crop the picture, keeping in the fingers pulling down the shirt to draw the eye up and reveal the marks on Chiellini. His face is cropped out entirely, so no extra details detract from the picture.TV pundits and voices on social media were already calling for Suarez to be banned and punished. We had moved the pictures out. Uruguay score a goal and more pictures came streaming in. The game had moved on, but we all knew what the talking point was going to be and what picture was going to be used. -
The US versus Germany lineups are in!Germany: Neuer, Howedes, Hummels, Schweinsteiger, Ozil, Podolski, Muller, Lahm (captain), Mertesacker, Kroos, Boateng.US: Howard, Gonzalez, Bradley, Besler, Beasley, Dempsey (captain), Jones, Davis, Beckerman, Zusi, Johnson.
Two changes for the US: Geoff Cameron is benched after a shaky performance against Portugal. His whiffed clearance led to Nani's early goal and he made several other mistakes that led to unnecessary chances for Portugal throughout the rest of the game. Brad Davis also starts in place of Alejandro Bedoya.
Bedoya started against both Portugal and Ghana. He had solid if not remarkable performances, so perhaps Klinsmann is simply looking to get fresh legs into a US team that has had less time to recover from two tiring games than the Germans. -

Swept up in the narrative that soccer, with record TV ratings and a surge in pop culture recognition, is finally popular in the US? Here's an excellent counter-argument: Soccer has always been popular in the US, but in easily ignored immigrant communities. Many die hard, intergenerational soccer fans in the US support other counties beyond the US National team.Photographer Douglas Zimmerman has been traveling around the US during the World Cup shooting the diversity of the country’s fan culture and further illustrating this. He has showcased Korea and Mexico fans in LA, Bosnia fans in St. Louis, and Chile fans in Denver, among others. For the USA-Germany match tomorrow there will be a massive viewing party in the middle of downtown Detroit at noon on a work day; in a workers’ city that is 83% black and also has substantial Arab and Mexican communities. You can bet that the faces in the crowd will reflect this, rather than being the “urban, wine-sipping bourgeoisie …of supposedly Euro-centric civility” fans that he mischaracterizes as the sport’s sole passive supporters in the United States.
